About the role
Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned and highly analytical Senior Database Support Engineer to ensure the performance, availability, and security of our database environments across MySQL, PostgreSQL and NoSQL platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong troubleshooting ability and is confident supporting Development, Infrastructure, DevOps and Data/Analytics teams in a fast-paced production environment.
This role requires someone who can resolve complex production issues, drive root cause analysis, and support modern data platforms, while keeping database operations stable, secure and compliant.
Employment Type: Full-time/Onsite
Coverage: Extended-hours / on-call rotation across multiple regional markets
Key Responsibilities
- Provide database support to Development, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Data/Analytics teams across MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL (MongoDB, Couchbase) environments
- Act as Level 2 escalation for database-related production incidents; lead root cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective/preventive actions to closure
- Install and configure MySQL (InnoDB and NDB Cluster storage engines), set up and maintain replication, and resolve replication issues
- Review, validate, and advise on schema changes, stored procedures, functions, and triggers submitted by development teams; guide developers on query and indexing optimization
- Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and availability; proactively identify risks and apply corrective actions, including configuration tuning and workload analysis
- Support and maintain MinIO/S3-compatible object storage — bucket management, access policies, lifecycle rules, and integration with data pipelines and archival processes
- Support data lakehouse environments integrating relational databases, object storage, and query engines (Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Dremio, Trino); assist Data/Analytics teams with ingestion, transformation, and archival workloads
- Implement and maintain database security controls — access management, privileges, authentication, and encryption; perform regular audits, integrity checks, and access reviews
- Execute and validate backup and recovery procedures; support BC/DR planning, testing, and contingency activities
- Review and support database changes across Dev, Test, Pre-Production, and Production environments per change management procedures
- Maintain documentation of configurations, support procedures, change records, and operational runbooks aligned to organisational standards
