About the role

Cloud Solutions Engineer (FDE)

About the role

SCC is seeking an engineer who combines practical cloud and software skills with the ability to understand customer operations and turn business needs into working solutions.

Working on customer sites across public sector, utilities, defence and financial services, you will help customers gain measurable value from cloud, data, automation and AI technologies. You will work alongside customer teams, domain specialists and SCC architects, taking defined improvements from discovery through implementation and operational handover.

What you will do

  • Understand customer workflows, identify delivery obstacles and agree priorities and success measures with business and technical owners.
  • Design, build and integrate solutions using appropriate technologies from SCC's portfolio, connecting cloud services with existing applications and data.
  • Write maintainable code, automate tasks, build integrations and troubleshoot problems across systems.
  • Implement testing, access controls, monitoring and recovery with specialist support. Prepare solutions for controlled release, user adoption and operational handover.
  • Explain technical choices, costs and dependencies clearly. Identify opportunities for further adoption where they address a validated customer need, and capture reusable code, documentation and lessons.

What you will bring

  • Practical cloud expertise. Experience implementing and troubleshooting solutions on at least one cloud platform, including identity, networking, compute, storage, deployment automation and monitoring.
  • Software and integration skills. Ability to write and test code in Python, TypeScript or another relevant language, work with APIs and databases, and resolve integration and data quality issues.
  • Customer problem solving. Ability to turn incomplete requirements into a manageable scope, question assumptions and choose between AI, conventional automation and process improvement.
  • Clear communication and commercial judgement. Confidence working with operational users and senior stakeholders, explaining trade offs and balancing performance, security, implementation effort and operating cost.
  • Production discipline. Experience delivering working systems, handling sensitive information responsibly and supporting testing, controlled changes, documentation and handover.
  • Applied AI understanding and learning ability. Practical understanding of connecting models to approved information, evaluating outputs and controlling actions, alongside the ability to learn industry workflows and collaborate with specialists.

Useful additional experience

Experience in public sector, utilities, defence, financial services or another regulated environment is valuable. Exposure to AI applications, enterprise systems integration and customer delivery is also relevant.

Your background may be in cloud engineering, software development, systems integration or technical consulting. We value demonstrated capability over a particular previous job title.

What success looks like

Customers use the solutions you help deliver, agreed operational improvements are demonstrated, quality and cost remain visible, and the receiving team can operate and support the capability effectively.
